As I look back over my life it is clear that the most important elements that have combined to define me are the creative process and the constant need to be expressing myself through various art forms. In some of us, art is such a natural part of our being that we don’t even notice the tremendous creative drive that surrounds us and continues to carry us forward throughout our lives. For as far back as I can remember, making art has always been as natural a process as speaking my native language. Art is the first thing I think about when I awaken in the morning, and it is the last thing as I close my eyes at night.
I don’t have a formal art education. While I have taken classes and studied art for many years, it has been a sporadic effort, so I must consider myself to be essentially self-taught. In a way, I feel that this has been advantageous because I have found my own truths and artistic paths at the times when they were most needed. I am naturally curious, and also a bit of a badger when it comes to understanding new techniques, and I do enjoy the self-learning process. Along the way, I have studied print-making, drawing, painting, and graphic design, and I feel fortunate to have had a very successful career in that particularly competitive field.
I have continued to draw, paint and work with other fine art media all along the way. In addition, having a good comfort level with the computer and an understanding of sophisticated software has provided an added opportunity for artistic experimentation and problem solving. While art is by nature intuitive and emotive, my process is quite straight forward. I approach each new piece knowing that it requires a correct set of elements bound together with creative resolve, with the ultimate goal being a perfected visual exposition. I am experimental to a considerable degree, but it is my complete emotional immersion in the creative process that often yields the most fulfilling outcome.
I am now well into leaving graphic design behind in return for a full-time career as a fine artist. It is an exciting time, and I am confident that what I have learned along the way in my life will continue to sustain me as an artist and help me to create with intuition and a clear sense of artistic balance.
